2 crashes reported within minutes in Northern Va.

WASHINGTON — Two accidents occurred within about a minute of each other in Virginia early Friday morning, one the result of a police pursuit on Interstate 66 and the other sent three people to the hospital.

Just before 3 a.m., police were pursuing a car on eastbound I-66 when the car crashed into a tree at the Westmoreland exit.

The man in the car got out and ran, Arlington County police say. Police found him at the East Falls Church Metro Station.

The second accident happened on the Fairfax Drive ramp to westbound I-66, involving two cars, one of which flipped over.

Arlington police say three people were taken to the hospital. They did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

Virginia man charged with impersonating a police officer at a police station

Police in Prince William County, Virginia, have arrested a man who they say was trying to pass himself off as a cop. Officers said the man, later identified as Matthew Bailey Thompson, 45, of Manassas, showed up at the gate to a secure parking lot at their central police station on Davis Ford Road in Woodbridge around 7 p.m. Wednesday. He tried to get into the lot by telling them that he was an officer, too.
