WASHINGTON — A Virginia state police car parked along the side of Interstate 66 was hit when another driver lost control of her vehicle on the wet road Tuesday morning.
Senior Trooper E.D. Brown Jr. had parked on the shoulder of westbound I-66 near Va. Route 234 and was standing outside the unmarked red police car when a Honda Civic slammed into the police car.
State police say that the Honda was not able to stop in time for slowing traffic and spun around when the driver hit the brakes and careened into the trooper’s car.
The Centreville driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries and she was charged with reckless driving.
Brown, who had stopped for another motorist, was not injured.
In Virginia, drivers are required to move over or to cautiously pass stopped emergency vehicles. State police also remind drivers to slow down and stay alert when roads are wet or slick.
