WASHINGTON — Police will honorably escort the man who died during a World Police and Fire Games event and his family to Washington Dulles International Airport Wednesday morning.
Officers from Fairfax County, City of Alexandria, Arlington County, City of Fairfax, Prince William County and Virginia State Police will provide a funeral escort for Carlos Silva, the Brazilian investigator who died after colliding with other participants in a cycling event in Prince William County July 2.
Silva, 48, died after colliding with two other cyclists. The other cyclists are being identified as a 44-year-old man and a 43-year-old man.
The escort will depart from Metropolitan Funeral Service at 5517 Vine Street in Alexandria on Wednesday at about 10 a.m. The escort will travel on south Van Dorn Street to Interstate 95 South, to the I-495 Hot Lanes North, to Route 267, the Dulles Access Road West, to the airport.
An Honor Guard contingent will be at the airport for Silva’s arrival.
Fairfax County Police Department says the community is welcome to join the escort to show their support of Silva and the other injured athletes.
The escort may cause brief traffic disruptions, police say.
