The Trump International Hotel in downtown D.C. has filed a layoff notice affecting 237 employees.
The notice was filed with the District’s Department of Employment Services on April 3 and took effect the same day, but it only appeared on the Department’s public website of Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices Wednesday.
The action was listed as a layoff as opposed to a permanent closure. We’ve reached out to the Trump Organization for comment and will update this post if we hear back.
The hotel, which is operated by the Trump Organization in the Old Post Office on Pennsylvania Avenue NW under a lease from the federal government, was in the process of being sold when the coronavirus hit. The Trump Organization was asking $500 million for the lease, and reportedly had interest from Salamander Hotels’ Sheila Johnson, D.C. developer Brian Friedman, and others according to a Washington Post report.
