Kimsey estate in McLean sells for $45M — a new record for the region

There’s a new record home sale in greater Washington.

The 3.2-acre McLean estate that belonged to Jim Kimsey, the late co-founder of AOL, sold for $45 million on Friday, according to listing agents Mark Lowham and Russell Firestone of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty. The buyer was not disclosed. Lowham and Firestone declined further comment.

The sale price is significantly less than the $62.95 million the Chain Bridge Road home initially listed for in 2018, but it still marks the most expensive home sale ever for the region. It edges out the $43 million sale in 2018 of Merrywood estate in McLean from Jean and Steve Case (a fellow AOL co-founder) to The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Merrywood was the childhood home of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The Kimsey property, named The Falls, features a main house and a guest house, the latter of which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Va. health dept. improves nursing home inspection backlog, reforms sanction criteria for facilities

Stories of neglect in care or unsanitary living situations have plagued several of Virginia’s nursing home facilities in recent years and data backs up a lapse in oversight by state agencies.  With reform efforts underway, the Virginia Department of Health officials said they aim to adopt sanction criteria by the end of the year to rein in bad actors and get troubled facilities back on track.  As of July, 58% of Virginia’s nursing homes were overdue for inspections and 68 of Virginia’s 289 nursing homes were found to have serious deficiencies, according to ProPublica. Several of the state’s flagged facilities with numerous deficiencies also had high staffing turnover rates.  The issue has been salient among various healthcare spaces, including VDH.
