Putrid plant returns to D.C.

WASHINGTON – Here’s a story that stinks worse than some of my bits. As I write this, the famed titan arum is predicted be currently in bloom at the U.S. Botanic Garden.

Also known as the “corpse flower” or “stinky plant” for the horrible scent it gives off to attract the flies that pollinate its flowers, this rare, unusual and amazingly huge plant native to the rain forests of Sumatra went on display Thursday, with peak bloom anticipated to occur this weekend.

Extreme stunts at Nitro Circus to excite Maryland thrill-seekers this weekend

Organizers of the Nitro Circus say one of the highlights this year is a record-breaking stunt, which includes a 75-foot backflip through a 35-foot wall of fire. The Nitro Circus 2.0 Tour, an extreme sports extravaganza, will be held Sunday in Annapolis, Maryland, at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The event is creating a little competition for the Grand Prix, with both events competing for thrill-seekers this weekend. Annapolis native Travis Pastrana, who helped start the Nitro Circus shows, is excited to bring his passion to his hometown.
