Grains mostly lower, livestock mixed

CHICAGO (AP) _ Grain futures were mostly lower Monday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Sept. corn gained 6 cents at $4.91 a bushel. Sept. wheat was off 4.75 cents at $6.83 a bushel. Sept. oats was off 4.5 cents at $3.21 a bushel. Sept. soybeans was down 7.75 cents at $12.17 a bushel.

Beef was lower and pork was higher on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Aug. live cattle fell by 4.7 cents at $2.20 a pound. Aug. feeder cattle fell by 1.65 cents at $3.34 a pound. Oct. hogs was up 0.25 cent at $.81 a pound.

El-Sayed distances himself from popular streamer’s comments on Israel and Jewish Americans

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed, distanced himself Monday from progressive commentator Hasan Piker, who suggested that some pro-Israel rhetoric may lead to backlash against American Jews. The controversy could complicate El-Sayed's campaign as he tries to unify Democrats in a battleground state that will help decide control of the U.S. Senate. El Sayed is one of several Democratic candidates this year who harnessed Piker's online megaphone to appeal to younger voters, and they appeared together at campaign events during the primary, but last week's comments may have cooled the relationship. Wearing a suit and tie during one of his typically hours-long livestreams, Piker argued against the idea that opposing Israel is antisemitic. American Jews are not uniformly supportive of Israel, he said, but many “Jewish institutions” are “teaching people the idea that Jews are monolithic" and "its a very dangerous mode of propaganda.”
