WASHINGTON — If you haven’t checked the calendar, it is the day for Christmas online shoppers to save shipping costs and still guarantee those presents are under the tree on Christmas morning.

On Friday, Dec. 18 — Free Shipping Day — more than 1,000 participating retailers will offer free shipping, with no minimum purchase required.

There is a wide range of retailers offering the free shipping, ranging from Lord & Taylor to Wine.com to Kate Spade to The Children’s Place.

Purchases are guaranteed by each retailer to arrive by Christmas Eve.

There’s a lot of shopping to be done, according to a Gallup poll. Americans plan on spending an average of $830 on gifts this season, up sharply from $720 a year ago.
