WASHINGTON — A D.C. man has been charged with stabbing a 79-year-old man to death on Easter Sunday.

Malcolm Cunningham, 21, of Northeast, was arrested and charged Monday with second-degree murder while armed in the death of David Norwood. Norwood was found at about 1:30 p.m. in the dining room of a house on C Street Northeast, according to charging documents.

The police haven’t detailed the relationship between Cunningham and Norwood, but relatives of Cunningham live at the house. The documents say that Cunningham had lived there, but was kicked out about two weeks ago. Relatives said that Cunningham had threatened to kill someone else in the house before.

A witness saw Cunningham arguing with Norwood near the house on Sunday morning. The older man told Cunningham, “I saw you trying to break in,” and that Cunningham replied, “I want my clothes.”

Another witness saw Cunningham leave the house and throw something into a trash can in a back alley. After Cunningham left, the witness looked inside the can, saw a knife and texted the police. Police said in the documents that they saw security video that confirmed the witnesses’ accounts.
