The late U.S. Rep. John Lewis — a civil rights icon — was honored Monday at the U.S. Capitol.

Lewis died July 17 at 80 years old. He had been diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer months earlier.

He served in the U.S. House of Representatives for Georgia’s 5th Congressional District from 1987 until his death.
