WASHINGTON — Metro’s Dupont Circle station was evacuated Friday afternoon to clear smoke inside, according to D.C. Fire and EMS. The station has reopened.

Metro’s Dan Stessel says an inbound train had a brake problem around 12:30 p.m. The train was taken out of service and is now in the rail yard. D.C. Fire’s Tim Wilson says this response was not any different than it would have been before the deadly smoke incident at L’Enfant Plaza station  on Jan. 12.  Wilson says the response was out of an abundance of caution.  Stessel says that Metro was not going to evacuate the station or stop trains after offloading the train with the brake problem. However, D.C. Fire asked Metro to both evacuate the station and to stop trains.  The trains were stopped for roughly 15 minutes while smoke cleared from the station. Stessel says some smoke was also seen from the same incident at Woodley Park and Cleveland Park stations.   See video below of smoke and fire near brakes.
