Car collision in Montgomery Co. leaves 1 dead, another injured

One person has died and another was hospitalized, after a head on car crash left a car dangling over an overpass in the Montgomery County, Maryland, Saturday night. Just after 7:30 p.m., Montgomery County Fire and EMS reported to Norbeck Road on Route 28 between Norwood Road and New Hampshire Avenue, where two cars had collided.



Montgomery County Police said one vehicle was traveling westbound along Norbeck Road when it crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle traveling east. Spokesperson Pete Piringer confirmed that two people were trapped in their cars and were rescued by emergency personnel. One ended up on the guardrail, while another was left hanging on the side of a bridge.

The two people were transported to a nearby hospital with priority-one trauma and life-threatening injuries and priority-two trauma with non-life-threatening injuries, respectively. The driver of the westbound vehicle died at the hospital. All lanes were temporarily blocked on MD-28 between MD-650/New Hampshire Avenue and Norwood Road in both directions. Wegmans tractor-trailer catches fire, blocking street by Montgomery Co. shopping center

A tractor-trailer hauling food products caught fire early Thursday morning and began leaking fuel in Germantown, Maryland, according to the Montgomery County fire department. No injuries from the fire have been reported, but it blocked all lanes as first responders worked to clear the smoldering truck from Observation Drive by the Milestone Shopping Center.
