Police arrest suspect in rape of teenager in Rockville, Md.

WASHINGTON — Montgomery County police have arrested a man in connection to the rape of a 17-year-old girl at a Metro station.

Malachi Peter Raymond, 21, was arrested Tuesday night on charges of rape.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, Rockville and Metro Transit police officers responded to a call about a rape at the Twinbrook Metro Station, located at 1600 Chapman Ave., according to Montgomery County police.

The victim told investigators that she had boarded a bus in the Wheaton area at Randolph and Selfridge roads. She struck up a conversation with the suspect, and when they reached the Twinbrook Metro Station, both exited the bus.

Police say that the suspect and the girl walked to a nearby parking garage on Fishers Lane. He tried to kiss her and when she refused, he raped her in sixth floor stairwell. After the assault, he walked her back to the Metro station and left the area. The girl called police.

Raymond was arrested at his home in Rockville.

Montgomery Co. police release 2019 statistics on crime, bias, use of force incidents

Montgomery County Police have released their annual reports from 2019 after a delay they said was due to the coronavirus pandemic and department retirements. Increases were seen in fatal crashes, overdoses and crimes against property in Montgomery County. Additionally, there was a significant increase in bias incidents in 2019. And three districts in the county saw an increase in use of force by officers in response to resistance.
