1 dead following fiery crash in Gaithersburg

One person is dead and two others are injured following an early morning single-vehicle car crash in Montgomery County, Maryland. The collision happened on Saybrooke Oaks Boulevard near Midcounty Highway in Gaithersburg at about 4:40 a.m. Saturday, according to Montgomery County police.

The car, a 2016 BMW 328i, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer tweeted. A preliminary investigation found that the BMW was going west on Saybrooke Oaks Boulevard when the car left the roadway, striking a sign first and then a tree. The car caught on fire and was fully engulfed with the driver still inside. Two passengers of in the car were able to get out and were found by the first officers on scene near the area of the crash. The driver of the BMW, Jorge Arturo Castro, 26, of Silver Spring, Maryland, died at the scene, according to police. The two passengers in the car were transported to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to Piringer. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Montgomery Co. clarifies new restrictions ahead of Thanksgiving

Montgomery County officials are clarifying a recent order that requires residents to wear masks outdoors at all times if not in a private area. In a directive Wednesday, the county's health officer, Dr. Travis Gayles, said it would require all residents to wear face coverings "outdoors and whenever coming into contact with individuals who are not members of their household."
