Baltimore County executive throws hat in ring for Md. governor

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz is running for governor in Maryland

Kamenetz, a Democrat, tweeted his plan. He’s making a special announcement in Towson on Monday. Kamenetz has been county executive since December 2010. The Democratic primary for governor is a crowded one for next year’s election. The field already includes Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker, state Sen. Richard Madaleno and former NAACP president Ben Jealous also is running, along with former Michelle Obama aide Krish Vignarajah, entrepreneur Alec Ross and lawyer Jim Shea. The primary is June 26.

The pitching of Steve Dalkowski made it to the big screen, but he never made it to the major leagues. Dalkowski, who pitched for the Baltimore Orioles’ minor leagues teams from 1957-1965, died April 19 at the age of 80. The Nuke LaLoosh character in the movie classic "Bull Durham" was loosely based on Dalkowski’s career.
