Tips lead to arrest in boy’s shooting

WASHINGTON — D.C. police say tips from the public helped lead to the arrest of a man charged with shooting a teen boy earlier this week.

Police arrested Derryck A. Decuir, 22, of Southeast D.C., Friday morning on a charge of assault with intent to kill while armed.

Decuir is accused of shooting the boy, who was found in the 2800 block of 28th Street SE about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday suffering from a gunshot wound, police say.

The boy was unconscious but breathing when he was taken to the hospital in what police described as grave condition. The teen remained in the hospital Friday afternoon.

Police have not released his name or exact age.
