Woman shot dead; man in custody following Upper Marlboro barricade

Police said a woman found shot in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is dead and an armed man is in police custody after he barricaded himself in a home early Thursday.

Prince George’s County police said the man was taken into custody at about 6:40 a.m. after officers responded to the 12400 block of Cecily Court for the report of a domestic-related incident at about 2:20 a.m.

Police said officers located a woman a short distance away in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation and trying to determine a motive for the shooting.

Police have not yet identified the victim or suspect.

Police said there was no threat to the community.

Robert Bowie Drive at Trotter Terrace was closed “out of an abundance of caution,” police said.

People had been asked to avoid the area.
