1 man dead, 4 wounded in Adelphi shooting

A man is dead, and four others were sent to the hospital after a shooting in Prince George’s County, Maryland, early Wednesday morning.

According to Prince George’s County police, the shooting happened after midnight outside a home in Metzerott Road near New Hampshire Avenue in Adelphi.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found five men suffering from gunshot wounds.

Juan Agudelo Maldonado, 21, of Lanham, was found outside near an apartment complex suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Maldonado had just turned 21 years old the day before the shooting, and was celebrating his birthday at the time of the shooting, Prince George’s County police deputy chief Anthony Schartner said.

Police said their preliminary investigation revealed two suspects approached the five men, who were gathered outside. Shortly afterward, the two opened fire on the group. The motive in the case remains under investigation.

The other four men were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Three of those men were hospitalized following the shooting, while the fourth was treated and released.

Police are still searching for a suspect but said that there’s no danger to the public.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Prince George’s County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-8477. A $25,000 reward is being offered in connection to the case.

“We need the community and other folks’ partnerships. Police are not going to solve this crime by themselves,” Schartner said. “That’s why we are imploring that the public, the community help us in identifying these people.”
