Taliban attack kills 4 Afghan soldiers in Kabul

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — At least four Afghan soldiers have been killed in a roadside bomb attack on a bus in the capital.

Gen. Mohammad Zahir Azimi, spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Defense, says the blast occurred Tuesday morning while army troops were on their way to the ministry in Kabul.

Azimi says six other soldiers and six civilians were wounded in the blast, adding that the bomb was detonated by remote control.

A Taliban spokesman tweeted that the group was claiming responsibility for the attack.

Taliban insurgents have stepped up their attacks against both Afghan and NATO security forces. Most international security forces are preparing to withdraw by the end of the year.

One person is dead and one is hurt after what investigators are calling a possible house explosion in Annapolis, Maryland, Wednesday afternoon. Fire crews arrived in the 1100 block of Green Holly Drive shortly after 12:20 p.m. after 911 calls poured in from neighbors, fire officials said. They found what they believed had been a two-story structure, with the second floor collapsed onto the first floor. "There was no fire present, just significant damage, including a debris field that extends about a half a block up the street," Assistant Anne Arundel County Fire Chief Larry Schultz said at a news conference.
