Md. naval air station plans training exercises

PATUXENT RIVER, Md. (AP) — Officials with the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in St. Mary’s County say nearby communities should be aware of noisy training exercises that have been scheduled.

Officials say that pilots at the air station will be training Saturday and that may mean increased noise between 10:30 a.m. and noon and 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Pilots will be doing training exercises that include practicing landing on an aircraft carrier, though a runway will serve as the carrier during practices.

Goodwill of Greater Washington  A caring and local nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives and communities through the power of education and employment. Most people know Goodwill for its network of thrift stores and donation centers. However, by donating to Goodwill, those items that have outgrown your home fund jobs, job training, and educational services for people faced with barriers to employment. In addition to its retail stores, Goodwill operates two adult charter high schools known as The Goodwill Excel Center. The schools are the only adult charter high schools in DC that offer adult students, who previously left school, the opportunity to return and earn their high school diploma, not a GED. Goodwill is also expanding its impact through an innovative affordable housing development in Arlington, VA, which will be the first of its kind in the country to combine a state-of-the-art retail store and donation center with 128 affordable family housing units and onsite childcare in a single location.
