People met with busy tone when trying to place cellphone calls in Fairfax Co.

A network issue has been reported in Fairfax County, Virginia, causing intermittent issues with wireless phone calls.

People are reporting hearing a busy signal when using their cellphone for calls.

A WTOP listener reported similar issues in Montgomery County, Maryland, shortly after the issues in Fairfax County were reported.

Montgomery County police’s Emergency Communications Center said they had conducted tests with the four major wireless providers and did not see any issues. Montgomery County residents do not have the option to text emergency services and instead should place a call on a landline if experiencing cellphone issues.

In the case of an emergency, D.C. and Fairfax County suggest sending a text to 911 or calling the number on a landline.

Fairfax County firefighters come home after assisting Colombia earthquake victims

Ten Fairfax County firefighters who are part of Virginia Task Force 1 returned late Thursday from helping coordinate a rescue effort after the devastating earthquake in Colombia. Family members greeted the team as they arrived in Chantilly Thursday night. A young girl held a sign that read "Welcome Home Daddy." For Andy Kassavetis, this was his first mission with Task Force 1, and seeing the devastation in Colombia put some things into perspective for him. He said he saw firsthand "how impactful an event can be on a community. It makes you think about, you know, really when you come home sharing the love with the people around you and letting them know you’re there with them, because things can change really quickly.”
