1 dead after hit-and-run in Annandale

A pedestrian is dead following a Tuesday morning hit-and-run in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Police responded to the accident on Royce Court and Hummer Road in Annandale near the community park just after 6 a.m.

Angel Paz Lopez of Alexandria was walking across the southbound lanes of Hummer when he was hit by a dark-colored sedan, Fairfax County police said in a statement. The sedan did not remain at the scene.

Lopez, 42, was the county’s 10th pedestrian fatality of the year.

Authorities are looking for a green four-door vehicle with possible front-end damage in connection with the fatality. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 703-280-0543. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Solvers online or by phone at 1-866-411-8477.

Woman critically injured in domestic shooting in Bowie; suspect in custody

A woman is in critical condition after a shooting inside a Bowie, Maryland, home Thursday, police said. A caller reported the shooting at about 4:20 p.m., police said. Bowie police officers and Prince George’s County Fire and EMS went to the 8500 block of Myrtle Avenue and found a woman in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her upper body. The first responders provided lifesaving care before she was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Bowie Deputy Police Chief Robert Liberati said during a briefing. Police arrested a suspect at the scene and found a weapon believed to have been used in the shooting. According to the police, the suspect and victim were in a romantic relationship.
