First lady Barbara Bush has low-key 89th birthday

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine (AP) — Former first lady Barbara Bush is having a low-key 89th birthday celebration in Maine.

A family spokesman says the wife of former President George H.W. Bush is having a private dinner Sunday with relatives in Kennebunkport, where the family has a summer home.

There’ll be another celebration later in the week. The former president turns 90 on Thursday.

George H.W. Bush went skydiving on his 85th birthday and vowed he would do it again on his 90th.

But it doesn’t appear that will be the case.

His spokesman says Bush plans to have dinner with family and others. He now uses a wheelchair.
