Construction to close HOV lanes on I-95 in Va.

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) — Construction on the Express Lanes project on Interstate 95 in northern Virginia will result in closures over the weekend of the highway’s HOV lanes.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the reversible HOV lanes will be closed through 10 a.m. on Saturday from Dumfries all the way to the District of Columbia.

After 10 a.m. Saturday, the lanes’ southern segment, south of the Springfield Interchange, will reopen. But the section north of the interchange will remain closed until 11 p.m. Saturday.

At 11 p.m. Saturday, the HOV lanes will again be closed in their entirety through 10 a.m. Sunday. At that point, the lanes will reopen in their entirety, heading north.

The nearly $1 billion project on a 29-mile corridor from Fairfax to Stafford County is 70 percent complete.
