Bethesda’s first smoke-free apartment building opens Thursday

The first new residential building to open in Bethesda in five years is also the first 100 percent smoke-free apartment building.

Gallery Bethesda, at 4800 Auburn Avenue, marked its grand opening Thursday. The apartment tower is part of Donahoe Companies Inc.’s 580,000 square-foot Woodmont Central development.

The project will include a second residential building at 4850 Rugby Avenue and a 90,000-square-foot office building at 8280 Wisconsin Avenue.

The 18-story Gallery Bethesda has 234 apartments with some two-bedroom units renting for more than $4,400 a month.

The list of amenities includes a sports club, coffee bar and pet spa.
