Floods, mudslides kill 22 in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — At least 22 people have died in Sri Lanka from two days of floods and mudslides triggered by unusually heavy monsoon rains, officials said Tuesday.

The Disaster Management Center said one person was reported missing and eight others were injured. About 2,500 people were forced to flee their homes to temporary camps.

It said at least 14 people were killed in the western Kalutara district, where rocks smashed homes, destroying 44.

Roads and railroads were flooded in several areas, disrupting transport.
