‘Mad Men’ creator to receive honorary Int’l Emmy

NEW YORK (AP) — “Mad Men” creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner is being honored with the 2014 International Emmy Founders Award.

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Monday that Weiner will be presented the honorary award on Nov. 24 at the International Emmy Awards Gala in New York.

Academy President & CEO Bruce L. Paisner says Weiner is being recognized for “creating a global cultural phenomenon that has dramatically changed the television landscape.” The AMC drama about a Madison Avenue advertising agency in the 1960s premiered in 2007 and will air its final seven episodes next year.

Weiner recently wrote and directed his first feature film, “You Are Here,” starring Owen Wilson, Zack Galifianakis and Amy Poehler, which will open later this summer.
