Jose Abreu reinstated from DL by White Sox

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jose Abreu has hit a two-run homer off two-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw in his second at-bat since coming off the disabled list.

The first baseman was reinstated from the 15-day DL by the Chicago White Sox before Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Abreu missed 14 games because of tendinitis in his left ankle. When he left the lineup, the rookie slugger from Cuba was leading the majors with 15 home runs and ranked second with 42 RBIs. The White Sox were 8-6 in his absence.

Abreu set major league rookie records for homers (10), RBIs (32), extra-base hits (19) and total bases (71) in April and was selected AL rookie of the month. He takes the roster spot of infielder Marcus Semien, who was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte after Sunday’s game in San Diego.
