BALTIMORE (AP) — Residents who live along a street that collapsed in Baltimore will be allowed to return home soon.

Residents who live on 26th Street in Charles Village learned Sunday that they will be able to go home starting Thursday.

The residents had to leave after the street collapsed April 30 following a storm that delivered roughly five inches of rain. The collapse swallowed eight cars, trees, a street lamp and a large swath of sidewalk, and buried railroad tracks below in debris.

Since then, crews have been working to reinforce the walls around the tracks. City leaders say the final gas mains will begin to be installed on Monday.
