Westbrook takes pole for TUDOR race

DETROIT (AP) — Richard Westbrook took the pole Friday for Saturday’s Chevrolet Sports Car Classic, the fifth race of the inaugural TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season.

Westbrook led three times during the 15-minute session on the 2.36-mile street circuit. He took his last lead as the session was ending, posting a fast lap of 99.517 mph in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing Corvette DP. He’ll co-drive with Michael Valiante in the 1-hour, 40-minute race.

Spencer Pumpelly took the GT Daytona class pole in the No. 45 Venezuela/eSilicon Audi R8, with a lap at 91.052 mph. Pumpelly will co-drive with Nelson Canache Jr., with their car starting 12th overall in the 30-car field.
