Md. teen not competent for trial in 2 slayings

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — A western Maryland teenager has been found not competent to stand trial in the slaying of his grandparents.

The Herald-Mail (http://bit.ly/U15QTB ) reports that 19-year-old Joseph Minoglio (min-OH’-lee-oh) of Keedysville had a hearing Friday in Washington County Circuit Court in Hagerstown. The judge ordered him committed to Clifton T. Perkins Hospital, a state psychiatric facility, until further notice.

Minoglio was sent to Perkins for evaluation in April.

He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing in March of 84-year-old Joseph Michael Minoglio and 78-year-old Peggy Minoglio in their Keedysville home.

Minoglio fled in the couple’s car to southwestern Virginia, where he called 911 and surrendered to police.

A status hearing to review Minoglio’s condition will be held in May 2015.
