Man sentenced to 60 years for killing girlfriend

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — An Essex man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for fatally stabbing his girlfriend in his home.

Fifty-eight-year-old John Falkenstein Jr. was sentenced Thursday in Baltimore County Circuit Court. He had been convicted of first-degree murder in the slaying of 48-year-old Janet Palasik.

Prosecutors say on Nov. 4, 2012, Palasik brought food to Falkenstein’s home. Authorities say Falkenstein choked and stabbed Palasik. Her body was found in Falkenstein’s house the next day after relatives reported her missing.
