SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Del. Heather Mizeur is campaigning as the most liberal candidate in Maryland’s Democratic primary.

She told The Associated Press in a recent interview that closing income inequality gaps is a top priority. She supports bringing back a tax on people with incomes of $1 million or more to help ease the tax burden on the middle class.

She also backs legalizing marijuana and taxing it to pay for expanding pre-kindergarten.

Mizeur has outlined strong environmental positions. She opposes the proposed conversion of the Cove Point LNG import facility in southern Maryland to an export facility.

Mizeur has served two terms in the House of Delegates representing Montgomery County.

She is running against Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Attorney General Doug Gansler in the primary, which is June 24.
