Isle of Wight police investigating mower thefts

ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (AP) — Police in Isle of Wight are investigating the theft of more than $45,000 worth of commercial-grade mowers.

A power equipment store owner noticed eight mowers missing on Tuesday morning.

Store owner Hubert Herrala and an Isle of Wight County sheriff’s deputy discovered the fence surrounding the property had been cut to gain access. Surveillance video from the property shows a pickup truck pulling a trailer with a mower in it early Tuesday.

WAVY-TV (http://bit.ly/1nvnbAO) reports a similar larceny occurred in Wakefield earlier this week from an equipment store in which six mowers were stolen. That larceny was reported to the Sussex County sheriff’s office.

Investigators aren’t sure whether the two crimes are connected.
