COLLEGE PARK, Md. — More road work on the Capital Beltway will lead to overnight and daytime lane closures until the fall.

The Maryland State Highway Administration will begin a safety and repaving project at 9 p.m. Thursday on the Beltway between New Hampshire Avenue and U.S. 1.

The work will close up to two lanes Sundays to Thursdays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and could close a lane weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Along with the lane closures, the College Park weigh station and Park and Ride will close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. Truck drivers are being asked to use the Hyattstown, Frederick or Upper Marlboro weigh stations as overnight parking alternatives.

The highway administration is asking drivers to consider using Powder Mill Road as an alternate.

The project will install new guardrails, patch the roadway, improve drainage and stabilize roadway slopes.

The work is expected to finish in the fall.
