CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) — Civil liberties lawyers are raising questions about Chesterfield County’s prayer policy.

The American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for Separation of Church and State say the policy must change to allow any person from any faith to pray before public meetings. They sent a letter to the county stating their concerns.

Prayers before public meetings in Chesterfield County have been a contentious issues for years. In 2005, the Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/RYwF9i) says Chesterfield County’s policy was upheld by a federal court of appeals.
