Salamander adds another property to its management portfolio

Sheila Johnson’s Salamander Hotels & Resorts is expanding its empire.

Dunavant Enterprises Inc. has selected Salamander to help develop and manage the anchor hotel in its new Henderson Beach Resort in Destin, Florida.

The new property, officially named The Henderson, a Salamander Beach & Spa Resort, will feature 171 rooms next to a top beach and adjacent to a 208-acre nature preserve. The hotel is expected to open in spring 2016.

Dunavant says in a release that it selected Salamander for its “extensive knowledge of luxury hotels and spas, as well as its other award-winning Florida resorts.”

This will be Salamander’s fourth property in Florida. It manages three other golf resorts in the state. Locally, Salamander launched the Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg in 2013. It is also developing an equestrian resort in Tryon, North Carolina, set to open in 2016.
