Judge: Va. man incompetent for trial in slaying

CULPEPER, Va. (AP) — A Culpeper man accused of killing his former girlfriend and wounding another man has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Gary Willie has been ordered to undergo treatment at Central State Hospital for five years. The involuntary civil commitment dates from his arrest on April 30, 2012.

The Culpeper Star-Exponent (http://bit.ly/RMVJzL ) reports that Culpeper Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge Frank Somerville issued his ruling last week.

The 53-year-old Willie is accused of fatally shooting 31-year-old Patricia Ann Adams and wounding her estranged husband, 45-year-old Roger Edward Davis, on Oct. 8, 2011. Police say Willie then shot and wounded himself.

If Willie’s competency is restored, Culpeper County Commonwealth’s Attorney Megan Frederick says her office will prosecute him.
