Man indicted in Ohio hospital break room shooting

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man has been indicted by a grand jury on charges stemming from a Veterans Affairs hospital shooting that wounded one person.

Friday’s indictment charges 59-year-old Neil Richard Moore with an assault and a weapons offense. His arraignment is Tuesday in federal court in Dayton.

Defense attorney Frank Malocu (muh-LUK’) says he doesn’t plan on entering a plea at the hearing. He says he’ll request a mental competency evaluation to determine whether Moore is capable of understanding the charges and assisting in his defense.

He says he believes Moore suffers from mental illness but has not elaborated.

Authorities say Moore pointed a gun at people in a break room at the VA hospital May 5 and an employee was shot in one of his ankles in a struggle.
