Eagle Liberty flies from National Arboretum nest

WASHINGTON — Liberty took off. The male eagle at the National Arboretum fledged from his nest Thursday morning. It happened at 6:12 a.m. “It was a perfect launch and very intentional,” said Julia M. M. Cecere, spokeswoman for the American Eagle Foundation, in a news release. A few seconds later, “Mr. President,” Liberty’s dad, flew off. The American Eagle Foundation posted a video of the flight on its Facebook page.

Thousands have already viewed the video. Liberty and his sister, Freedom, have captured people’s attention since they hatched in March. Freedom made her first flight on Sunday, June 5. Watch the eagles on a webcam.
