Md. man gets 20 years for fatal stabbing of teen

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — A Hagerstown man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for fatally stabbing an 18-year-old man during a melee in the downtown business district in October.

Twenty-one-year-old Shakeem Miles was sentenced Wednesday in Washington County Circuit Court. He was convicted in April of second-degree murder in the slaying of 18-year-old Jalonte Thomas-Leach.

Police say Thomas-Leach was stabbed early in the morning of Oct 13 during a large disturbance that began as a fight among a group of women. They say Miles stabbed Thomas-Leach after the younger man apparently refused to fight him.
