Fife, drum units celebrating military music in Va.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — Fife and drum units from across the U. S. and Canada are heading to Colonial Williamsburg to celebrate the tradition of military music.

Officials with the historic area say the celebration is part of “Drummers Call Weekend” taking place Friday through Saturday.

The weekend begins Friday with an evening of traditional, patriotic military music honoring the anniversaries of the War of 1812 and the Battle of Williamsburg.

Colonial Williamsburg’s Fifes and Drums will then join featuring 14 fife and drum units from the U. S. and Canada for a grand march on Saturday.

A schedule of events can be found at http://www.colonialwilliamsburg.com.

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation operates and maintains the preserved 18th century site as an educational and tourist venue.
