Socialites, actresses, models mix at ballet gala

NEW YORK (AP) — Socialites, actresses and supermodels packed the Metropolitan Opera House to mark the opening of American Ballet Theatre’s spring season, always a highlight of the New York social calendar — not to mention its fashion scene.

Sigourney Weaver, Selena Gomez and Emmy Rossum attended the event Monday night, along with supermodels Karlie Kloss (accompanied by her mother) and Coco Rocha.

Guests were treated to excerpts, greatest-hits style, of the company’s featured works this season. A highlight was the hugely colorful “Gaite Parisienne,” by Leonide Massine, which closed out the evening.

The spring season will be highlighted by the addition to the repertory of Frederick Ashton’s “Cinderella.”

Guest artists will include Alina Cojocaru of the English National Ballet, Maria Kochetkova of the San Francisco Ballet, and Kevin Jackson of the Australian Ballet.
