WASHINGTON — Montgomery County police say a “ghost bike,” which sat as a memorial for a U.S. Navy SEAL who was struck and killed while riding his bicycle last year, has been stolen.

On Friday, Montgomery County police say the bike, located in the 6100 block of Massachusetts Avenue in Bethesda, was taken sometime between May 26 and May 30.

The all-white bike draped with The American flag sat as a memorial for Timothy Aloysius Holden, who was hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Massachusetts Avenue on August 28, 2015.

Holden, 64, was a highly decorated Navy SEAL who worked as a counterterrorism expert for the military.
