Company agrees to pay EPA hazardous waste fine

PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) — A company says a case in which it agreed to pay a $101,000 penalty to settle allegations of hazardous waste violations at its Petersburg plant involved technical issues.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://tinyurl.com/kswyysk) reports the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that Pre Con Inc. had agreed to pay the penalty and to regularly inspect and monitor its hazardous waste storage areas.

Pre Con’s plant conducts research and development for the production of synthetic fabrics.

The company issued a statement Friday that there have been no incidents or findings indicating that the environment, its employees or the public were harmed as a result of the facility’s operation.
