WASHINGTON (AP) — Maryland’s senators say President Barack Obama has nominated a visiting professor at the Georgetown University Law Center to fill a vacancy on the Fourth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals.

Sens. Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin, both Democrats, say Obama has nominated Pamela A. Harris of Potomac, Maryland, to fill the vacancy created when Judge Andre Davis took senior status in February.

Harris, who earned bachelor’s and law degrees from Yale, previously served in the Office of Legal Policy at the Department of Justice.

The Fourth Circuit in Richmond, Virginia, has appellate jurisdiction over district courts in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.
