MANASSAS, VA. — At this Easter egg hunt, 5,000 eggs rain down from the sky. It’s Sunday morning and three-year-old Elias Ramirez, who loves helicopters, was waiting for the second annual Helicopter Easter Egg Drop to begin.

He was there with his parents and twin brother. The family traveled hours from Shenandoah to Northern Virginia Community College’s Manassas Campus for the egg drop. Elias’ mother, Laura Ramirez, says she found out about the event on Facebook.

Hundreds of kids waited patiently for the chopper to drop candy filled-plastic eggs onto an open field. Then after the kids got an official “3,2,1” countdown, they stormed the field to fill their containers with eggs.

Even some of the parents were out to help their children, perhaps forgetting for a few minutes, that they weren’t children anymore.

The egg drop is put on by Impact Church. “We love the tradition of Easter egg hunting,” Pastor Brandon Hembree says. “We wanted to do something brand new for the community, something that’s going to bring our NOVA family together.”
