For over 20 years OUR HOUSE 501(c)(3), has run a residential program for abused, abandoned, homeless, orphaned, disadvantaged male youth, ages 16-21 from the Maryland and Washington, DC Metro area. They arrive via the Social Welfare System, Foster Care, and Juvenile Justice System. It is on a 140 acre property near Olney, Maryland, that was purchased with the generosity of Oprah.

We provide the young men a home, high school education, computer skills, job skills in the construction trade, carpentry, small engine repair, husbandry (hens), bee keeping, organic gardening, recreation, counseling, life skills, self- esteem, confidence and a chance at success in life.

The youth perform weekly community service, learning the importance of “giving back”. We have received the Thomas Jefferson Public Service Award.

The youth sell the organic eggs, honey and produce from our State certified organic garden at farmer’s markets, learning Entrepreneurship. They receive 100% of the proceeds upon graduation. Many have graduated becoming home and business owners.

OUR HOUSE serves 16 youth and has a waiting list. We are trying to raise funds to build a new dorm, to expand, so we can stop turning needy kids away. The current dorm and classroom are renovated farm buildings.

Many of our youth have no families, or none that care. Some are being given one more chance to get their lives on track before they end up incarcerated, or need direction, to know they are loved and someone cares.
