WASHINGTON — Mickey Rooney, a giant of the box office in the 1930s and 1940s. has died, according to Variety. He was 93.

The 5-foot, 3-inch Rooney’s career spanned eight decades and weas nominated for four Academy Awards, winning two special awards, one in 1939 and one in 1983. He also won an Emmy and was nominated for a Tony Award.

His first stage role came at age 15 months, according to Variety, and his first adult role came opposite Elizabeth Taylor in 1944’s “National Velvet.”

In 2011, he was granted a restraining order against his stepson, who was accused of interfering his his finances. He also testified before the Sneate on a bill regarding abuse of senior citizens, Variety says

Rooney is suvived by his wife and eight children; he had been married eight times.
