Price of beauty cheaper than you think

WASHINGTON — The price of beauty is probably cheaper than you would think, if you don’t go farther than your kitchen.

“There are a lot of ingredients that are found in your kitchen that are really wonderful for your skin and that are actually the active ingredients in the products you are buying,” says author Alexis Wolfer.

Wolfer, whose new book, “The Recipe for Radiance … Discover Beauty’s Best-Kept Secrets in Your Kitchen” takes on those high-priced products and suggests you can get the same results by making it yourself.

Wolfer, creator of the lifestyle website TheBeautyBean.com, wanted to look better and feel healthier. She decided food was the key both inside and out. Her eating habits changed for the better and her kitchen do-it- yourself projects were having positive results.

“Being really mindful about what we put in our body is only as good as what we also put on our body,” says Wolfer.

Who knew that using sugar works like an exfoliate in the shower or using a chilled washcloth soaked with chilled caffeinated coffee can wake up a tired face?

Wolfer says the book contains “half recipes that promote beauty from within and half recipes for topical homemade beauty remedies all using food.”
